Joby Brava
Began her dance career at the age of 19 with modern dance,
jazz, ballet, and hip-hop. During this time, she spent three years at a Theater Dance Company, "On Common Ground".
She began her salsa dancing in 1993. In 1994 she, Luis
Vazquez,
and Janette Valenzuela founded the 1st salsa dance company in California, Salsa
Brava.
Back then, everyone thought salsa was something you ate with chips but Joby's
determination contributed to exposing a style of salsa no one has ever seen before, world-wide. It started in Puerto Rico's 1st Annual Congress in 97' and
than quickly grew from her visits to 36 different countries.
She
has trained some of the best salsa dancers in Los Angeles. Joby Vasquez has had the wonderful opportunity to perform in videos, movies, televisions, film, and
stage shows with artists such as Sinbad, Tito
Puente, Thalia, Jennifer Lopez, Chayanne, Vanessa
Williams, Tito
Nieves, Quincy
Jones, Donnie
& Marie, Rosanne
Bar, and The
Four Tops. Joby has also choreographed for tv shows such as Mad
TV (WBS), City
of Angels(CBS), and Sinbad's Vibe TV (UPN).
As
a pioneer of what is now considered "LA Style Salsa"
she has been blessed to receive prestigious awards such as: Sabor Magazines
"Best
Dance Company Award 2001, 2002, & 2003" and "Best Female Dancer in LA 2001" Albert Torres
